Gene L. Coon was a science fiction writer in the 1950s who wrote the story "Metamorphosis", which was published in the March 1953 issue of Incredible Tales magazine. He also wrote the story "Eminiar Seven" for the August 1953 issue of Astounding Science Fiction. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars")

Gene L. Coon is an homage to Star Trek: The Original Series writer and producer Gene L. Coon.
