Gary Monak was the special effects supervisor on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He also worked on Star Trek Nemesis as the special effects foreman.

Monak started his career as a special effects technician on Steven Spielberg's movie 1941. His other motion picture credits include Jonathan Frakes' Clockstoppers and the highly successful film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Monak has also worked on the television series Hunter, The Invisible Man, and The O.C.

Several characters and places have been named after Monak in Star Trek, including Gary Monak, Monac IV, and the Monac shipyard.

Monak was nominated for two Emmy Awards for his work on Deep Space Nine. The first was for the episode "One Little Ship"; the second was for the series finale, "What You Leave Behind".
