Garum (fish sauce) was an ancient Roman food condiment made from rotting fish, including their blood, gills, and entrails, which was mixed with salt and allowed to ferment.

The inhabitants of planet 892-IV broiled sparrow in garum. Proconsul Claudius Marcus recommended it for James T. Kirk to try, describing it as "delicious". (TOS: "Bread and Circuses")
