Gamma Argus II was an inhabited planet and the homeworld for the Gamma Argus II natives, a pre-warp-capable species. It was the second planet of the Gamma Argus planetary system.

In 2364, the planet was protected under the terms of the Prime Directive.

In that year, the Federation starships USS Callisto, USS Enterprise-D, and USS Mustang, acting under orders from Starfleet, observed the cultural evolution of this planet. Within those orders, the ship's captains, Seth Goldberg, Jimmy Arakaki, and Jean-Luc Picard, had the discretion to determine the viability of making contact with the natives. The parameters of their mission included a cultural evolution study and, at the discretion of the captains, an initial first contact. Under the terms of this scenario, the captain would be acting as an agent of the United Federation of Planets. (TNG: "Conspiracy")
