Gamelan V was the inhabited fifth planet located in the Gamelan system. This was the homeworld for a peaceful native humanoid species. This planet had no planetary defense system and was headed by a chairman.
In 2367, an ancient unmanned sublight freighter carrying toxic waste was pulled into orbit around Gamelan V, and began leaking massive radiation into the atmosphere. Ambient radiation levels increased by upwards of 3,000%. Chairman Songi, the planet's leader, contacted the USS Enterprise-D, under the command of William Riker, for help. The Enterprise was able to save the planet by tractoring the barge into the Gamelan sun. (TNG: "Final Mission")
"GAM-uh-lin" was the pronunciation for this planet's name from the script pronunciation guide. [1]
