Holograms (for example the EMH) can't be harmed, for example if you throw an object at a hologram the object will simply pass through the hologram. However, holograms can pick up objects and people can physically touch holograms and vice versa. Does the hologram's program include information about when a hologram is a "solid object" and when it will let something pass through it? Is there any canon information that explains everything?

It would seem that it does. I think this is stated on Voyager in reference to the EMH, but I don't recall which episode. (possibly "Phage") I'd suggest reviewing hologram, holodeck and other articles. 31dot (talk) 10:06, March 30, 2014 (UTC)
Furthermore, I believe when The Doctor was wearing his mobile emitter, he was constantly solid as he was interacting with a physical item (the emitter). --| TrekFan Open a channel 09:25, March 31, 2014 (UTC)
