:iirc, there is no on screen reference for this. I believe Odo had in the area of 30 security for DS9...and they had roughly 300 residents at any given time. Take from that what you will. --<span style="color:#00FF00;">6/6</span> <span style="color:#00a000;">Subspace</span> 04:40, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

::I've never seen an explicit reference to the number of security people on a Starfleet vessel. But I don't think hard numbers would address it very well. Given Starfleet philosophy, and common practices in current navies, it doesn't seem like there would be a bunch of Security personnel mulling around doing nothing but keeping an eye on things. Most security officers would be tasked with other duties; and in general Starfleet personnel are trained for combat duty. Some of them obviously have more significant security training, and are used when dignitaries need protection and such, but it is likely a secondary duty that pulls them from other tasks when they are needed. In some cases there is a head of security, but that is just a central coordinator, it is likely he draws necessary personnel from other duties when needed. Given the stable nature of Federation society, having security officers standing around would be a monumental waste of resources the vast majority of the time. Conclusion: the total number of security personnel on any given Starfleet ship is likely vaguely defined by secondary training among its crew. This could potentially be a large portion of the crew. --JCoyote 06:24, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

iirc, there is no on screen reference for this. I believe Odo had in the area of 30 security for DS9...and they had roughly 300 residents at any given time. Take from that what you will. --6/6 Subspace 04:40, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
I've never seen an explicit reference to the number of security people on a Starfleet vessel.
