The last modified timestamp on the bottom of each page simply shows the time of the last edit. I think it should show the last time the page was regenerated. This way it would include changes made by an edit to a template that is included in the page. If you want the time of last revision you could look in the history, eh? Even the Last-Modified header doesn't include the regenerated time. The only way to detect a change is to compare the content with a cached version, which is just the worst. --bp 16:46, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Doesn't sound like a bad idea, but then I'm not a techie so I don't know if there would be any headache involved or whatever. I'm assuming it's as simple as a change to the CSS or whatever, yes? Anyway, I'm for it unless someone points out a major flaw, disadvantage, or unwanted effect that I am unaware of. --From Andoria with Love 17:59, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
Might not be a simple CSS change, though it would be nice if it is. Might need a mediawiki software change. --OuroborosCobra talk 18:46, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
I don't like the idea. I expect "Last modified" to be the most recent deliberate edit to the Wiki item I'm looking at. If a template is modified, I don't expect it to virally infect the timestamps of other Wiki items. Anyway, it's probably moot because of the mediawiki core modifications required. You are still going to have the "deliberate" last change in the article history. Right now, though, there is no way to see when the last time the page was actually changed was. Modifying the templates can change a page as drastically as any deliberate user edit. --OuroborosCobra talk 01:12, October 31, 2009 (UTC)
