The First Clerk was the chief financial adviser to the Grand Nagus.
Grand Nagus Smeet and his First Clerk were both assassinated after a dramatic drop in the Ferengi Market Exchange.
Quark briefly held this position until Grand Nagus Zek fired him for spreading rumors about Zek's lover and Quark's own mother, Ishka. (DS9: "Ferengi Love Songs").
