Lieutenant Gaetano was a male Human Starfleet officer who lived during the mid-23rd century. He served in the command division aboard the USS Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk during the mid-2260s.
In 2267, he was aboard the shuttlecraft Galileo assisting in collecting data on the Murasaki Effect. After landing on Taurus II, he was assigned to scout the surface with Latimer, who he subsequently witnessed die at the hands of the inhabitants of the planet. He then appealed to Spock not to leave the man's body behind.
Gaetano agreed with Boma that the planet's natives ought to be attacked before they could harm the rest of the landing party, disagreeing with Spock's decision to frighten them rather than killing them. Gaetano was later killed by the planet's inhabitants. Spock located him and assisted the rest of the shuttle's crew with his burial. (TOS: "The Galileo Seven")
