A scene from World War I, also referred to as the "Great War" in Old Britain and France. (Star Trek: Enterprise: "In a Mirror, Darkly", "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II" opening credits)

Picture of the Day
This picture is currently "Picture of the Day" for 11 November. As this exact picture was specifically chosen, be careful when modifying or replacing it.
Pictured is a battery of US 75 mm M(odel)1916 field guns, based on, and designed after the famed French original. The scene itself however, is post-World War I; American manufacturing ineptitude caused delivery to the United States Army to be delayed by almost two years. The first units were only received by the American forces in France, who in the mean time had to make do with French guns, during the last two months of the war, and none had seen any action. Additionally, the gun carriages equipped with rubber tires, as featured in the scene, were only introduced in 1919, one year after the war. [1] Furthermore, the scene depicted is not even real world interbellum historical footage (the gun was phased out at the start of 1942, and only a few saw action in Australian service in the Far East theater of World War II in its early stages), but rather a clipping from the 1927 Paramount Pictures silent war movie Wings.
