The Fifth Order was a division of the Cardassian military.
In 2369, the Fifth Order was a day's travel away from Bajor, when Gul Jasad's trio of Galor class warships arrived Deep Space Nine, but he decided not to wait for them before attacking, because reinforcements from Starfleet could arrive in the same time. (DS9: "Emissary")
The Fifth Order was known for their sophisticated military encryption codes, which used a recursive encryption algorithm, and was comparable to Elgol-red and Courier Code 5-9. Fifth Order Military Codes were among the miliary codes ruled out as belonging to the communique received at Deep Space 9 from the Gamma Quadrant. (DS9: "In Purgatory's Shadow")
