A field trip was the term used to describe an educational excursion of school students and their teachers to an environment away from the classroom.

During the first half of the 22nd century, Charles Tucker III recalled a grade school teacher who was once certain that he had stolen a pencil off her desk, and wouldn't let him go on a field trip to Pensacola unless he apologized. (ENT: "A Night in Sickbay")

In 2364, Wesley Crusher and eleven other students went on a field trip to Quazulu VIII, where they were exposed to a virus. (TNG: "Angel One")

In 2368, teacher Miss Kyle organized a "father and son" field trip for the primary school on board the USS Enterprise-D, during which her students visited the ship's biolab to learn about other lifeforms. Among those attending was Security Chief Lieutenant Worf and his son, Alexander. (TNG: "New Ground")

The following year, within just a few weeks of opening her classroom on Deep Space 9, Keiko O'Brien took all eleven of her students on a field trip to Bajor, to visit the grain processing center in Lasuma. (DS9: "Dramatis Personae")
