Federation Space Systems was a shipbuilding entity that built Starfleet vessels for the United Federation of Planets at the San Francisco Fleet Yards and the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards.
The Constellation-class USS Stargazer was built by the FSS in the late 23rd century. (TNG: "The Battle")
The Galaxy-class USS Enterprise-D was built by the FSS in the mid-24th century. (TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint")
The Federation Space Systems was mentioned on the first iteration of the Enterprise-D dedication plaque. [1] It was mentioned one more time on the Stargazer dedication plaque. [2] Starting in the second season, with the USS Hathaway, ("Peak Performance") Federation ships were built by the Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems.
