"Fate protects fools, little children and ships named Enterprise."
– William T. Riker, 2365 ("Contagion")

Fate was the concept that some things were destined to happen. The term could also refer to the ultimate end of an individual, ship, or crew whose whereabouts or condition was unknown or uncertain.

In 2270, upon being held captive by the Delta Theta III aborigines, James T. Kirk wondered aloud why they always wound up in these sorts of scrapes. Spock opined that it might be fate. (TAS: "Bem")
