Farius Prime was the inhabited prime planet in its star system. It was the homeworld of the humanoid Farians. Politically neutral, this world was a major trading destination for many species and hosted the embassies of several galactic powers, including the Klingons, who maintained an ambassador there during the 2370s.

It was not particularly distant from station Deep Space 9, and freighters frequently traveled between the station and Galador II. Surprisingly, the planet maintained diplomatic relations with the Klingon Empire. Paper currency was in use on the planet. (DS9: "The Maquis, Part I", "Honor Among Thieves")

Among its attractions were races and prostitution.

Farius Prime was also the headquarters of a large segment of the Orion Syndicate criminal organization. In 2374, Miles O'Brien was sent undercover by Starfleet Intelligence to the planet to infiltrate the organization and build a case against some of its members. Many Farians were also members of the Syndicate. Such individuals included Raimus, Flith, and Thadial Bokar. (DS9: "Honor Among Thieves", "Prodigal Daughter")

According to and the scripts for "The Maquis, Part I" and "Honor Among Thieves", the pronunciation for Farius was "FAIR-ee-us". [1] [2]
According to, this planet orbited the star Farius, which was located at a bearing of 216 mark 177 from Deep Space 9.
According to Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 47) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), the Farius system was located in the Alpha Quadrant. The system's primary was a F-class star. In the late 24th century, it was an independent system.
