Eric Kotani is the pseudonym of Yoji Kondo (26 May 1933 – 9 October 2017; age 84), a Japanese-American astrophysicist, who also writes science fiction works. He is the author of one Star Trek novel.
In 1994, Kondo submitted a proposal to the International Astronomical Union for the naming of a Martian crater after Gene Roddenberry. He was co-sponsored by Carl Sagan and Arthur C. Clarke. The proposal was accepted and Roddenberry Crater was duly approved. (Voyages of Imagination, p. 291)
