Erib was an Andorian Starfleet medical officer and friend of Julian Bashir. They attended Starfleet Medical Academy together.

Elizabeth Lense mistakenly believed Bashir was Andorian after someone incorrectly pointed out Erib as Bashir to her at a New Year's Eve party hosted by Bruce Lucier. She did not learn the truth until she met Bashir on Deep Space 9 in 2371. (DS9: "Explorers")

Erib's full Andorian name (as per the naming conventions established in the novels set after "What You Leave Behind") is given as Shelerib th'Zarath in Avatar, Book One.
