Endangering the public safety was a crime whereby an individual caused the safety of the general public in the area of an incident to be compromised.
In 2373, after Hagath, Gaila, the Regent of Palamar, and Nassuc were involved in a firefight on Deep Space 9's Promenade, Benjamin Sisko informed Quark, who had brought the latter two together, that he was facing potential charges of incitement to riot and endangering the public safety, among others. Station regulation twenty five sixty two, paragraph four, stated that, "All furniture intended for use on the Promenade must not pose a danger to public safety." Odo cited that passage to Quark in 2374 when informing him that his new barstools would have to be removed, as Morn, for instance. might lose his balance and fall off the backless stools, injuring himself.
