Eileen Palestine was an editor. Her only Star Trek work to date is on the Star Fleet Medical Reference Manual with Geoffrey Mandel in 1977. Palestine was a registered nurse at the time, and it was she who came up with the idea to do a Star Trek-based medical manual. At that point in time, she was also Ron Barlow's girlfriend, who was running the New York City-base "Federation Trading Post" Star Trek store, along with Doug Drexler – and where Mandel was a store employee. It was under its "Star Fleet Productions, Inc." imprint that the work was published as a work of fan fiction, before it was by chance picked up by Ballantine Books for an official publication later that year.
