Arex, an Edosian male
Edosians (or Edoans) are a tripodal species, having three arms, three legs and three fingers on each hand, hailing from the planet Edos. An Edosian named Arex was a member of the USS Enterprise's crew in 2269-70.
Edos is also home to the Edosian orchid and the Edosian suckerfish. (DS9: "Broken Link"; ENT: "These Are the Voyages...")
- Knowledge of the suckerfish among Humans may indicate a first contact date prior to 2161.

Background
The name of Arex's homeworld originates in a Lincoln Enterprises catalog published in 1974, which included biographies of Arex and M'Ress. The Edosians are described as a peaceful, long-lived species worshipping many gods. Though the Animated Series may suggest that the Edosians are Federation members, the Lincoln biography claims they are merely in 'loose alliance'. Information from the Lincoln biography is not strictly canon, though the name of the planet seems to have been accepted in canon, and STARTREK.COM uses information from it.
