Edgar Allan Poe was a 19th century Earth author.

In 2266, under the control of Charlie Evans, Spock was forced to quote, "Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary," from Poe's poem "The Raven". (TOS: "Charlie X")

In 2376, Tom Paris commented that a Class J nebula USS Voyager had encountered reminded him of "something out of Edgar Allan Poe." (VOY: "The Haunting of Deck Twelve")

For the episode "The Big Goodbye", the production team inserted pages from the mystery novel Dangerous Ground to stand in for actual pages of a Dixon Hill novel. When Data was researching the Dixon Hill series, these pages would appear on the viewscreen. In 1987, these pages were illegible. Nearly thirty years later, these pages were legible via high-definition resolution. In Dangerous Ground, on page 73, the protagonist and narrator Dr. John Rawley described an afternoon with a quote from Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher".
