Edward "Ed" J. Reilly worked as best boy in the camera and electrical department of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. He also worked as assistant chief lighting technician to Richard Cronn on several episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

In 1979 he worked as electrician on the war comedy 1941 on which he worked with fellow TNG alumni Bill Peets and Adam Glick. He then worked as assistant chief lighting technician on the romance Pretty in Pink (1986), the crime drama Blue City (1986), the comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), the romance Some Kind of Winderful (1987), and the action comedy Beverly Hills Cop II (1987).

In 1999 Reilly received thanks in the end credits of the drama The Cider House Rules.
