A displacement wave is an artificially-generated energetic phenomenon, which can be characterized as a polarized magnetic variation.

In 2371, the Caretaker used displacement waves to bring starships from throughout the galaxy to his Array in the Delta Quadrant, in an attempt to find a biologically-compatible lifeform with whom to mate. Among them were the Maquis raider Val Jean and the Federation starship USS Voyager, which sustained damage and casualties during the trip. (VOY: "Caretaker") Other vessels caught by his displacement waves included a Cardassian Template:ShipClass cruiser, the missile Dreadnought, and the USS Equinox. (VOY: "The Voyager Conspiracy", "Dreadnought", "Equinox")
