The Explored Galaxy

The location of Deneb in "The Explored Galaxy" star chart

Deneb was the primary of its planetary system, which included at least three inhabited planets - Deneb II, Deneb IV, and Deneb V - and Deneb XX.

In 2293, the location of Deneb in the Milky Way Galaxy was labeled in a star chart that was in Captain James T. Kirk's quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-A. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, okudagram)

According to Star Trek: Star Charts (pp. 12, 33-34, & 41) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), there were two stars that were known as Deneb - Beta Ceti (Deneb Kaitos) and Alpha Cygni. Beta Ceti was a G9.5 star with an apparent magnitude of 0.8. The sixth planet, a failed protostar classified as a T-class planet, was viewed by some as a binary companion of Beta Ceti. The "true" Deneb – Alpha Cygni – was a bright blue giant located 3,230 light years from Sol. Both stars were located in the Alpha Quadrant.
