In Greek mythology, Daedalus was a character that fashioned wings from wax and feathers and used them to escape his prison together with Icarus. However, Icarus flew too close to the sun and his wings melted. The latter part was dismissed as Poetic license by Tom Paris.
In 2376, Alice told part of this myth to Tom Paris, who revealed that the tale was one of his favorite myths. However, Alice left out any mention of Icarus when she recounted the story, as she was trying to seduce Paris into believing that her systems were extremely efficient. (VOY: "Alice")
