In an hallucination experienced by Hoshi Sato while her molecular pattern was trapped within a transporter buffer, Cyrus Ramsey was among the first to test a new long-range transporter in 2146. During the test, Ramsey’s pattern was lost and he was never seen again. His disappearance became the subject of legend and many ghost stories in which he would rematerialize in front of someone.

In 2152, after using the transporter for the first time, Ensign Sato began to feel not quite like herself. In the mess hall, she was ridiculed by Tucker, Reed, and Mayweather for never having heard the story of Cyrus Ramsey. When the three told her the story, she feared that her molecules were falling apart and that she would disappear just like Cyrus Ramsey.

After being retrieved from the transporter and realizing the incident had been an hallucination, she mentioned her concern that she was becoming "the next Cyrus Ramsey". Tucker and Reed, however, did not recognize the name. (ENT: "Vanishing Point")
