Curt Swan (17 February 1920 – 16 June 1996; age 76) began in the comic book industry immediately after leaving the Army, in 1945. While in the military, he worked on Stars and Stripes. Based on this experience, DC Comics hired him and he began working on Superman three years later, a title he worked on over the course of the next three decades, finishing his run with John Byrne's reboot of the title in 1986. After finishing his run, he worked on a variety of smaller projects, including three issues of the Star Trek title.
