Fish Picards quarters

An aquarium with coral in Picard's quarters

Coral was a marine organism commonly found in the oceans of Earth. Coral was a type of colony creature, a larger structure composed of multiple individual organisms living in a cooperative manner.

On Earth, coral reefs were important marine ecosystems. One of the largest existed off the coast of the former United States of America where the city of Los Angeles collapsed into the sea in 2047. (VOY: "Future's End")

In 2269, the coral in the habitat of a halo fish on the USS Enterprise was affected by spiroid epsilon waves, along with all other organic material on board the ship. (TAS: "The Terratin Incident")

The aquarium in Captain Jean-Luc Picard's ready room aboard the Enterprise-D, which housed Livingston the lionfish, had a white coral. (TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint")

Bracas V contained coral reefs, off of which Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge once went skin-diving. (TNG: "The Loss")

When terraforming emulsion began to overtake the USS Cerritos in 2380, it caused coral to rapidly form in main engineering, trapping D'Vana Tendi and O'Connor. (LD: "Moist Vessel")
