A combination lock was a type of lock that unlocked when turned in the right direction and ordered set of numbers.
In 1930, a time traveling Spock opened a combination lock to access some tools from a toolbox. According to Edith Keeler, he opened it "like a real pro". (TOS: "The City on the Edge of Forever")
