The Columbus (NCC-17012) was a Federation class F shuttlecraft that was in service with Starfleet in the mid-23rd century, attached to the USS Enterprise. (TOS: "The Galileo Seven")

In 2267, the Columbus participated in the search for the lost shuttlecraft Galileo on Taurus II. (TOS: "The Galileo Seven")

A year later, the shuttle Columbus was in the shuttlebay when the Galileo transporting Ambassador Sarek and his entourage landed. (TOS: "Journey to Babel")

Background informationEdit

The original Columbus as reused footage

In TOS, the appearance of the Columbus was a reuse of the footage of the Galileo. The Columbus was later created as a CGI by CBS Digital. First appearance of this model occurred in "Journey to Babel" when the Galileo landed in the Enterprise shuttlebay. The registry of the shuttle was seen in this episode, matching the number first assigned to the vessel by the 1970s publication Star Trek Maps.

According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia (3rd ed, p. 83), this shuttle was "named for terretrial explorer Christopher Columbus (1451-1506)."

Prior to assuming command of the Enterprise, Captain Christopher Pike was transported to the starship by the Columbus. From the Columbus, the captain inspected his new command. (Ships of the Line, page 34)
