Colin Mitchell is the actor who played Gorta in the Star Trek: The Next Generation seventh season episode "Firstborn". He is the brother of actor and film maker John Cameron Mitchell.

Prior to his Trek appearance, Mitchell appeared in The Chocolate War (1988, with John Glover and Wallace Langham), Ghosts... of the Civil Dead (1988), Rose Against the Odds (1991), and Combination Platter (1993).

Mitchell's further credits include the drama Life (1996), L.A. Confidential (1997, with James Cromwell, Steve Rankin, Matt McCoy, Symba Smith, Robert Clendenin, John Mahon, Brenda Bakke, Steven Lambert, Jim Metzler, Don Pulford and Allan Graf), the short drama Interrogation (2004), the comedy Hard Four (2007, with Charles Dennis, Ian Abercrombie, Hamilton Camp, Ed Begley, Jr., Michele Scarabelli, Willie Garson, Carolyn Seymour, and Beverly Washburn), and the drama Rabbit Hole (2010). On the latter two films he worked with his then wife actress Salli Saffioti.

In 2005, Mitchell wrote the screenplay for the drama Welcome to September. In 2009 he worked as writer, director and producer on the short films Memphis Calling and Labor Intensive.
