Clement von Franckenstein (28 May 19449 May 2019; age 74) was an Austrian-British actor who played the gentleman in the Star Trek: The Next Generation sixth season episode "Ship In A Bottle".

Born in Buckingham, England, he was the son of the former Austrian ambassador to Britain, Georg von Franckenstein, who defected when Nazi Germany annexed Austria in 1938, became a British citizen and was knighted by King George VI. Franckenstein was educated at Eton College and served for three years as a Lieutenant in the Royal Scots Greens. He studied opera and aspired to become an operatic tenor before eventually venturing into acting.

Some of his notable film appearances include Lionheart (1990, with Brian Thompson), Death Becomes Her (1992, with William Frankfather, James W. Jansen, and Ron Stein), The American President (1995, with David Paymer, Anne Haney, Gail Strickland, Beau Billingslea, Richard McGonagle, Googy Gress, Ron Canada, and Ray Uhler), The Evening Star (1996), and Hail, Caesar! (2016, with Alison Pill, Robert Picardo, Dennis Cockrum, and Clancy Brown).

Franckenstein passed away on 9 May 2019 at the age of 74 of hypoxia after being in an induced coma for 10 days. [1]
