Christopher S. Gilman (born 25 April 1961; age 55) is a special effects creator, specialty costumer and propmaster, and occasional actor who appeared as the Knight in Armor in the Star Trek: The Next Generation seventh season episode "Emergence" in 1994. He received no credit for his appearance. His company also created and provided the space suits for the feature film Star Trek: First Contact and several episodes of Star Trek: Voyager, the cool suits for William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, as well as several props and wardrobe details in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and several episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Gilman was born in Manchester, Connecticut. His first steps into the film business were as stuntman in several theme parks such as Old Tucson Movie Studio. After several years, working in different effects labs, he has started a prop rental service in 1986 with his brother, Diligent Dwarves Effects Lab, which has grown up and has become Global Effects, Inc.. His company was involved in several film productions and has also provided the NASA. In 1991 he received alongside Harvey Hubert, Jr. an Academy Award in the category technical achievement for the development of the actor climate system / "cool suit".
Several productions his company was involved in are music videos for Madonna ("Cherish"), Iggy Pop ("Beside You"), and Ice Cube, television series such as Earth 2, Viper, Stargate SG-1, Seven Days, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, The Flash, seaQuest DSV, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and feature films such as Darkman, Mom and Dad Save the World, Mortal Kombat, The Addams Family, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, The Bodyguard, Masters of the Universe, Barb Wire, Forrest Gump, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Stargate, Mars Attacks, The Rock, Sphere, Deep Impact, The Core, Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace, 300, and Space Cowboys.
As an actor, always in a heavy costume, Gilman has appeared in films such as The Indian in the Cupboard (1995, alongside Keii Johnston, J.R. Horsting, Michael Papajohn, Erik Stabenau, and Frank Welker), the science fiction film Mars and Beyond (2000, with Sharisse Baker-Bernard, Majel Barrett, and Richard McGonagle), the Disney film The Haunted Mansion (2003, with Wallace Shawn and Rachael Harris), and the thriller Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005, with Corbin Bernsen, Martha Hackett, and Cole McKay).
