The Chenari were a species who were saved from extinction through the actions of James T. Kirk many years prior to the end of his five-year mission in command of the USS Enterprise.
Icheb mentioned the Chenari in his history presentation to Captain Kathryn Janeway in 2377. He referenced them as being one of the many civilizations saved by Kirk, which also included the Pelosians and the Baezians. (VOY: "Q2")
