Charles Darwin was a 19th century English natural historian and geologist. Based on a study of finches on the Galápagos Islands, which provided vital biological clues, he originated Earth's understanding of evolution.
His work was mentioned in a exobiology textbook read by Elizabeth Cutler in 2151, regarding evolutions of termites observed on the planet Loracus Prime. (ENT: "Strange New World")
A bust of Darwin was kept by Noonian Soong in his lab on Terlina III. (TNG: "Brothers")
According to The Star Trek Encyclopedia (first edition, April 1994), the Darwin Genetic Research Station on Gagarin IV was named for Charles Darwin.
In a scene cut from the final version of Star Trek Nemesis, Jean-Luc Picard noted that Darwin sailed aboard HMS Beagle without a single musket. [1]
