Sub-categories for series Edit

The sub-categories for the series seem rather redundant. If you remove the individual season pages and the show overview page, not one of them would have more then 5 pages in it. Now it's not like they're hurting anything, but VHS is the only home video cat to be sub-ed like this. I guess if we want to keep them, it might be worth doing on the other categories which could benefit more from this, though to be honest I don't think they really would. - Archduk3 07:25, March 15, 2010 (UTC)

Anyone opposed? Anyone? If there are no objections in a few days I'll delete them. - Archduk3 02:59, April 16, 2010 (UTC)

VHS overhaul Edit

From Memory Alpha:Category suggestions.

Since my efforts into finding Betamax information are proving disappointing, I though I would fill in the VHSs with some American info as well as some much needed basic format updates. To that end, I'm purposing that we replace the current category tree, seen here:

...with just one category: Category:VHSs. This follows the naming scheme used on all the other video format categories, as well as removing the unnecessary sub-cats. The series cats don't have enough releases, at least 5 IMO, without the individual season pages, and the UK sub-cat is just a second list of the releases already on this page. Also, most of those tapes were released in the US as well, with little more than a change of the cover art, so almost all the pages using the UK sub-cat are already in the category above it.

I would like to get this settled before expanding the section, as this could effect how best to do that. - Archduk3 22:15, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

I don't like the category name "DVDs" (is the plural of an abbreviation really built that way?), but at least it could be expanded to the sensible "Digital Versatile Discs". "VHSs", on the other hand, would expand to... what, exactly? "Video Home Systems"? That just doesn't sound right - let's stick to the existing Category:VHS releases, please. At the moment, I have no real opinion on the usefulness or lack thereof of the sub-cat structure. -- Cid Highwind

I did actually check on what the plurality of VHS would be, and it's either VHS tapes or VHSs with the latter being due to common usage. DVDs is correct also, but this example is closer to Blu-ray Discs vs Blu-rays. I would say that VHS tapes would line up better with Blu-ray Discs than the current name, but this is more about the sub-cats. - Archduk3 23:12, April 26, 2010 (UTC)
