Asteroids and Planetoids Edit

This list is a by-product of Category:Planets. All planetoids/asteroids that are now listed on the list of planets should be removed and listed here instead. They should not be categorized as a planet. -- Cid Highwind 01:12, 2005 Jan 2 (CET)

On second thoughts... Should planetoids really not be categorized as planets? Planets and moons are defined solely by their "position" in a star system at the moment - planets orbit stars, moons orbit planets. Is a planetoid a planet that just "happens" to be very small, or is it something completely different from a planet - does it make sense to not have both in the same category? Apparently, the same nomenclature may be used for both planets and planetoids in the Trek universe (see: Vandor IV, a planetoid). My suggestion, at this moment, would be to add planetoids to Category:Planets and just keep asteroids on a separate list (and later category) - but perhaps I'm missing something important? -- Cid Highwind 18:09, 2005 Jan 12 (CET)

I think it is by size -- the rogue planet Dakala and the Founders' homeworld are both described as planets, even though they have no sun. -- EtaPiscium 18:48, 12 Jan 2005 (CET)

A subcategory to Category:Astronomical objects for asteroids, asteroid belts and asteroid fields. We do have enough potential entries, certainly more than in Category:Comets. Kennelly 15:28, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
