Carl Steven (7 November 1974 – 31 July 2011; age 36) was the actor who played 9-year-old Spock in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock in 1984. This was his first feature film appearance. Steven would again play the younger version of a Leonard Nimoy character in the 1991 made-for-television movie Never Forget, directed by Joseph Sargent.

Steven was briefly a regular performer on the series Webster during the 1986-87 season and on the family drama Out of This World during the 1987-88 season. He previously appeared in a 1981 episode of Little House on the Prairie in which he played Elizabeth Rogers' son. This was followed with appearances on Simon & Simon (in the 1984 episode "The Wrong Stuff" with Gary Lockwood), Matt Houston (playing a young version of the title character in the 1984 episode "Blood Ties"), Trapper John, M.D. (on which Madge Sinclair was a regular), Diff'rent Strokes, Growing Pains, Punky Brewster, Mr. Belvedere (with Star Trek: Voyager guest star Willie Garson), and Weird Science (four episodes as Matthew, including one with Daniel Riordan).

He appeared opposite Ray Buktenica in the two television movies Wait Till Your Mother Gets Home! (1983, with James Gregory) and Heart of a Champion: The Ray Mancini Story (1985). He also appeared with Andrew Robinson, Chad Allen, and Biff Yeager in the 1985 television movie Not My Kid and with Christopher Plummer, Zach Galligan, Kelsey Grammer, and Herta Ware in the 1986 mini-series 'Crossings.

His film credits following Star Trek III are comprised of 1985's Teen Wolf (featuring Gregory Itzin), 1989's Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (with Matt Frewer), and 1990's Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael (with Heidi Swedberg).

Carl Steven died on 31 July 2011 at the age of 36, of a heroin overdosis, in Santa Rita Prison on a theft charge for stealing narcotics. [1]
