Caldos II was the inhabited second planet in its star system. This system was 200 light years from Earth. The planet had a southern desert region and a northern coastal area.

Nearly a century old, the Federation Caldos colony was one of the first major terraforming projects. This colony, located in the northern hemisphere, was intended to evoke the Scottish Highlands. The Federation installed a weather control system for controlling the planet's weather, seismic stabilizers for stabilizing the planet's geology, so that the colony did not experience earthquakes, and fusion systems for powering the colony. The weather control system last experienced a power flucuation in 2348, and had been operating perfectly since that year.

In 2370, Beverly Crusher, chief medical officer on board the USS Enterprise-D, attended the funeral of her grandmother Felisa Howard at Caldos II, where many of the inhabitants spoke Scots language. (TNG: "Sub Rosa")

"CALL-dose" was the pronunciation for this planet's name from the script pronunciation guide. [1]
According to the Star Trek: Star Charts, on the chart "United Federation of Planets I" and "United Federation of Planets II", the Caldos system was located in the Beta Quadrant. This system, also known as Beta Octanis, was a single star system. Primary was a Class A star with a magnitude of +5, which was the same brightness as Sol. Caldos II was listed as a member planet of the Federation in 2378.
In the Planets of the UFP sourcebook, this planet was called Caldos IV.
