Caithlin Dar

Caithlin Dar (2287)

Caithlin Dar was the Romulan representative to the so-called "Planet of Galactic Peace," Nimbus III. After volunteering for the position, Dar arrived at Paradise City in 2287.

She was an ambitious young woman and saw the Nimbus settlement as a great experiment. However, upon arriving, she was shocked by the state of the Nimbus III settlement and the attitudes of the other two representatives, St. John Talbot of Earth and the Klingon consul Korrd. Dar wanted the settlement to succeed and planned to open serious discussions with the other representatives. Her ideas were not greeted positively, though, as Talbot and Korrd had already decided that Nimbus III was destined to be a failure.

All three representatives were held hostage by the radical Sybok's Galactic Army of Light shortly after Dar assumed her position. She was coerced to read the hostage-takers' demands over subspace radio.

Sybok persuaded all three respresentatives to join him in his effort to find God, but after the supposed god turned out to be a malevolent being, Dar and the other representatives sided with Captain Kirk of the USS Enterprise-A. This new cooperation between the Nimbus III representatives seemed to be the first step on the way to a more-fruitful and cooperative administration of the Planet of Galactic Peace. (Star Trek V: The Final Frontier)

Dar was played by actress Cynthia Gouw. The movie novelization explains that her Terran-esque given name, Caithlin, stems from her being one-quarter Human. This also explains her lack of a pronounced Romulan brow. However, neither of these suppositions are canon.
The movie production may have tried to save money by completely covering what should have been Dar's pointed ears.
