Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin was an American pilot and NASA astronaut who became the second human to set foot on Earth's Moon (after Neil Armstrong) during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969.

After Jonathan Archer was passed up to pilot Starfleet's first Warp 2 flight in favor of A.G. Robinson and kept on as backup pilot, Archer compared himself to Aldrin, telling Ruby no one remembers what Aldrin said when he first stepped on the moon since he wasn't the first. (ENT: "First Flight")

In point of fact, his first words upon setting foot on the moon were "Magnificent desolation".
