"Sorry, kid. Life doesn't work like that..."
– Burke's dying words to Jake Sisko, 2373 ("Nor the Battle to the Strong")

Chief Burke was a Starfleet soldier who fought on Ajilon Prime when it was attacked by Klingons during the Federation-Klingon War in 2373. His platoon was attacked and forced to withdraw in a hopper due to the Klingons' use of transport inhibitors. Chief Burke stayed behind to cover the hopper and eventually died due to injuries that he sustained during the battle. Jake Sisko was with Burke before Burke died. (DS9: "Nor the Battle to the Strong")

Burke was played by Trek regular Danny Goldring.
Burke was described in the script as: "a badly wounded Starfleet Lieutenant, his uniform soaked with blood - he's BURKE, a seasoned combat veteran of about forty". (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion - A Series Guide and Script Library)
Goldring/Burke's tattered uniform "flack jacket" was sold in the It's A Wrap! sale and auction for US$104.50. [1]
