Brian Brophy (born 20 March 1959; age 64) is the actor who portrayed Bruce Maddox in the Star Trek: The Next Generation second season episode "The Measure Of A Man".

He had previously appeared in an episode of Max Headroom, starring fellow Next Generation guest star Matt Frewer in the title role. W. Morgan Sheppard, Concetta Tomei and George Coe also starred in the series.

He played the central role of the blackmailer in The Player (1992, starring Whoopi Goldberg and Dean Stockwell and also featured René Auberjonois, Paul Dooley, Louise Fletcher, Terri Garr, Sally Kellerman, Malcolm McDowell, Bert Remsen, and Ray Walston). Brophy was also one of the many Star Trek performers to appear in The Shawshank Redemption (1994, co-starring Bob Gunton, William Sadler, Clancy Brown, Mark Rolston, Jude Ciccolella, Don McManus, and Bill Bolender). He also co-starred with William Sadler in Freaked (1993, featuring Derek McGrath, Lee Arenberg, and Don Stark).

His other film credits include An Innocent Man (1989, starring F. Murray Abraham) Project: Metalbeast (1995, with stuntman Charles Picerni, Jr. as well as Diaunté, Carole Davis, Brioni Farrell, John Marzilli and Musetta Vander), White Man's Burden (1995, with Bumper Robinson and Bert Remsen), City of Industry (1997, with Famke Janssen), Kiss the Girls (1997, starring Ashley Judd), and Armageddon (1998, with Matt Malloy, Andy Milder, Marshall R. Teague and Lawrence Tierney).

Since 2008, Brophy has served as the director of Theater Arts at the California Institute of Technology.[1]
