The Borderland was a lawless region of space between the Klingon Empire and the Orion Syndicate in the mid-22nd Century, containing the Verex system amongst others. The most dangerous elements of both powers roamed in the Borderland and many ships were attacked here by Orions, who abducted their crews and sell them into slavery.

In 2154, a Klingon Bird-of-Prey was commandeered by almost twenty genetically engineered humans in the Borderland. The Enterprise subsequently entered the region to search for them (ENT: "Borderland") in the hopes of bringing the Augments to justice and avoiding an interstellar war with the Klingons, who blamed Earth for the bird-of-prey's capture. (ENT: "Borderland," "Cold Station 12," "The Augments")

Cold Station 12 seems to have been located near the Borderland. (ENT: "Cold Station 12")
