A side-view

The Bonaventure (C1-21) was an early Earth starship which played an important role in the discovery of warp flight. Construction and flight tests of this ship occurred after the historical first flight of the Phoenix and before construction began on her namesake, the Bonaventure.

In 2369, this ship appeared on a wall chart titled "Starship Chronology" in Keiko O'Brien's classroom. (DS9: "The Nagus"}. Later that year, and into the next year, a model of this ship was added to the classroom. (DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets", "Cardassians")

Background

This ship first appeared in the first edition of the Star Trek Chronology. In that work, the Bonaventure is identified as the first warp ship. Later, Greg Jein built a model of the ship for its appearance in Deep Space Nine. With the introduction of the design for the Phoenix for Star Trek: First Contact, this ship disappeared from the DS9 set and the official chronology. However, with its appearance in a canonical source, the ship and its history is considered canonical.
