William Douglas "Bill" Oakley (1 April 196416 February 2004; age 39) was a well-known and respected comic book letter artist.

He attended the Joe Kubert School of Cartooning and Graphic Art in New Jersey before going on to work for both Marvel and DC Comics. In addition to lettering comics, he was an avid collector.

He lettered one issue of the DC Comics Star Trek line, DS9/TNG #4: "The Unseen Enemy". Beside this, he lettered hundreds of other issues in various titles for the major companies, including Batman, Superman, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Lobo, X-Men, and Supergirl.

Due to the fact that he did not possess medical insurance, he was forced to letter issues from his hospital bed to pay bills before he died of cancer in his hometown of Utica.
