The Beta 5 Computer is a sophisticated computer built by unknown aliens from a hidden planet more than 1000 light years from earth. It is capable of analytical decisions, due to her artificial intelligence. The Beta 5's AI is extremely advanced and even has a personality. Gary Seven describes Beta 5's as being snobbish, which could be a fault common to all Beta 5's, such as was the case of the EMH Mark I's over 400 years later.
The Beta 5 is able to check news broadcasts from across the globe and also intercept and decode government messages. This is due to the Beta 5's exciever circuts. Beside being able to receive transmissions from around the globe, and from extra-terrestial sources, it allowed Gary Seven to take control of the flight telemetry of the missle launch. This allowed him to cause a failure in third stage detetchment of the rocket, and arm the warhead of the missle. The Beta 5 was able to block all commands to the rocket by McKinley Rocket Base, and US tracking bases in Bermuda and South Africa .
The Beta 5 also contains a vast database of knowledge about other planets and the history of Earth. Furthermore, the Beta 5 contains a replicator on the right hand side of its console that can be used for such purposes as producing fake identification.
When not in use, the Beta 5 computer his hidden behind the book case in Gary Seven's office. While in its hidden mode, the Beta 5 can be accessed through a Green Cube on Gary Seven's desk. While active, the cube glows brightly and then dims when waiting for furthure input. This interface device, however, is limited to only voice command input. For finer, manual control of the Beta 5, it must be taken out of hidden mode and accessed directly.
The Beta 5 was instrumental in the completion of Gary Seven's mission after agents 201 and 347 were killed in an automobile accident on thier way to their mission objective. (TOS: Assignment: Earth)
- The computer's voice was played by Barbara Babcock.
