Berengaria VII (also known as Berengaria) was the inhabited seventh planet of the Berengarius system. Classified as M Class, this Federation planet had no indigenous intelligent life, but possessed a flourishing ecosystem including a species of dragon-like flying reptiles.
Location
In 2293, the location of Berengaria VII in the Milky Way Galaxy was labeled in a star chart that was in Captain James T. Kirk's quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-A. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, okudagram)
History
Circa 2104, a Vulcan science vessel surveyed Berengaria VII, describing its dragon-like creatures as over two hundred meters in length and breathing fire. In December 2154, Berengaria VII was to be scouted by the Starfleet ship Enterprise NX-01 as the site of the first in a proposed series of starbases. However, an incident with an Orion trader postponed or canceled this mission. (ENT: "Bound")
At some point prior to stardate 3417, Spock saw a "dragon" on Berengaria VII. (TOS: "This Side of Paradise")
During the Dominion War of the late 24th century, Berengaria's strategic importance was on par with worlds like Andor, Vulcan, and Earth. (DS9: "In the Cards")
Appendices
Background information
"bear-fen-GAR-ee-ah" was the pronunciation for this planet's name from the script pronunciation guide for "In the Cards". [1]
According to Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets I"), Berengaria was at least a hundred light years from Sol, in or near Federation space, in the Alpha Quadrant, near Breen territory. In 2378, Berengaria VII was a Federation member. According to the The Worlds of the Federation, Berengaria VII had three moons, simply called "Alpha", "Beta" and "Gamma", and orbits a red giant star. It eventually became a Federation colony world, and subsequently a member world in its own right.
Apocrypha
The Pocket ENT novel Beneath the Raptor's Wing has this planet as the site of a starbase and it was fought over twice by the Coalition of Planets and the Romulans during the first year of the Earth-Romulan War.
Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Volume 2 states that Elias Vaughn was born on Berengaria VII and lived there as a child. It also calls the dragon-like reptile indigenous to the planet Draco Berengarius. The TNG novel Losing the Peace mentions a failed Borg attack on Berengaria in 2381.
