- You might also be looking for the species known as the Benzites.
Benzenites were a culture which had taken part in Starfleet and Federation politics.
Laporin, a starship captain, was a Benzenite. He attended Starfleet Academy with Benjamin Sisko in the early 2350s and was killed in battle with Klingons in the early 2370s when a Klingon officer ripped the breathing tubes from his head. (DS9: "Apocalypse Rising")
According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, Benzenites are the same species as Benzites.
